How Is 'Sound Engineering' A Career Option

As technology is getting more futuristic day by day, the need for people who can master the same is also increasing at the same speed. Due to the technological revolution, every sector in the world is seeing big changes. Similarly, the entertainment industry is also changing drastically and adapting to new technology at lightning speed. This has given rise to several animation and VFX courses in India. Animation and VFX are two high-in-demand professions in the entertainment industry. Though there is a vast difference between animation and VFX, most people use these terms interchangeably. Let’s understand the difference between these two skills.

What is animation?

Animation is a process where a designer will draw figures and then run them at the speed of more than 10 frames per second. This will create the illusion of those drawn figures moving. The default of 10FPS is used because it creates the desired optical illusion of a movement that is visible.

The 5 forms of animation include traditional animation, 2D animation, 3D animation, Motion Graphics, and Stop Motion.

If you want to see an example of 2D animation or any traditional animation you can go check out your favourite cartoons, it could be Scooby Doo, Cinderella, Tom and Jerry, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck etc.

Usage of animation

If we talk about the uses of animation then we have to think beyond the entertainment industry. Because other than movies and TV series, animation in the 21st century is being used in almost every sector.

Institutes are using animation technology to teach children in a creative way. Many companies have started using animation to promote their product and are using it as an advertising method. And you cannot ignore the gaming sector that is majorly relying on animation. This has increased the scope of animation in India.

Future and Scope of Animation in India

Animation is one of those selected fields that is getting the attention of every single company around the world. With its ability to hook every viewer with its content creation, animation has become the need of the hour. Many companies are using it as an advertising tool to showcase their latest product so that it can connect better with the viewers.

Educational institutions are also switching from traditional teaching methods to teaching children with the help of animation. And due to the surge in popularity of the gaming sector, the animation sector has also got hot.

To sum it up, I will say that animation is the future and the scope for artists who are proficient in this skill is high. A career in animation in India will be in the highest demand.

1. What is VFX?

VFX is also known as visual effects which is basically a process where you use real-life images or footage and create computerized effects which in real life are not possible easily.

VFX can be used for the creation of any type of video. Other than that, VFX is also very economical. You can use any e-media-looking scene and create something exceptional out of it.

In the film-making business, visual effects come in the post-production phase. Artists use different ways to create VFX such as Rotoscopy, Matte Painting, Digital Animation and Compositing. There are many VFX courses in India that can help you learn the process.

Example of VFX

To see the example of VFX you can check any Marvel or DC movie. Avengers Endgame, Captain Marvel, Gravity, Interstellar, Martian Inception and Planets are famous works of VFX.

Other than that, you can also see the use of VFX in a series called Agents of Shield, Jungle Book, Discovery etc.

Where is VFX used?

In the 21st century when we are planning to go to Mars vision of people has changed a lot. Simple romantic movies or TV series may not leave an impact on viewers as much as VFX-packed content can. Because VFX is cheaper and you can play with it as much as you want.

You can create another galaxy using your computer in order to show something to your audience. That is why it is being used for education purposes, gaming, and the entertainment industry.

Right now, there are a few advertisements where you can see they have used visual effects in order to leave an impact on viewers. To sum it up, I will say every single industry is using VFX right now which tells you about the growing scope of VFX in India.

As you know that right now VFX is one of the primary reasons that is attracting a lot of new viewers for watching movies and TV shows for different brands. That is why even Bollywood, Tollywood, and Pollywood have started using visual effects in their movies so that they can keep up with Hollywood. And the future and scope of VFX in India are brighter only.

2. What is the difference between Animation and VFX?

Even though I have told you about the basic meaning of animation and visual effects, still there are people who will get confused because of a few things and might not be able to tell the difference. We will also talk about the root cause of it.

In simple words, the animation is like giving life to your created art. You can create a character, a car or an animal and then use some Animation software to move it any way you want.

There is a procedure for how to create animated TV series or movies such as the famous Doraemon. And one more thing is that you cannot physically see the character which is in animation.

While on the other hand, effects are used on real things such as human beings, in the case of VFX. You must have seen a movie called Avengers. In that movie, Robert Downey Junior played the role of Iron Man. And in that movie, Iron Man was doing some unreal things which can only be imagined right now.

You can meet the person Robert Downey Junior who played the role of Iron Man in Avengers anytime you want but you cannot meet Doraemon!

Role of CGI

CGI stands for Computer Generated Imagery. By the name of CGI, you can understand that it is a process where you use your computer to create images. It is similar to Animation. But images created by CGI are used in visual effects. That is why a lot of people get confused and can not tell the difference between animation and VFX.

3. Software used for Animation and VFX

Till now we have discussed the meaning of what is animation, what is VFX, the scope of animation in India, the scope of VFX in India, the difference between animation and VFX, and how CGI makes both animation and VFX confusing for all of us.

As you may have understood now that both animation and VFX need specific software to work on. Working without any electronic device is not much possible for both visual effects as well as animation. To some degree, you can argue that you can do animation without an electronic device.

But in the end in both fields, you will find yourself working on a digital device due to the compatibility issues and speed. Now, let’s talk about the software you can use to create animation or VFX. VFX courses in India give hands-on software training to help you learn the skill. Likewise, for a career in animation in India also you need to take specific training.

Software for VFX

In order to create virtual effects, you have to have the best software. Here are a few software programs you can use for VFX namely, Blender VFX, Hitfilm Express, 4d Cinema, Fusion, Autodesk, and Maya. Some VFX courses in India also teach specific software.

Software for Animation

Autodesk, Maya, Autodesk 3Ds Max, Adobe Animate CC, Adobe Character Animator, and Cinema 4D are the few best software that will help you to do the animation. If you learn any one of them and switch them later is not going to be a difficult thing so you can freely select any one of them.

4. Animation V/s VFX. Which career to choose and why?

Animation and VFX industries both are the need of the 21st century. Due to the rising of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, visual effects like CGI are seeing massive interest from the public. Due to that, other industries such as Bollywood and Tollywood have also started using visual effects to provide better and more competitive quality to the viewers.

Some studies show the VFX industry is going to expect around 5 lac jobs every year by the end of 2023. But that was a different time when these studies came into the market. Due to covid, the demand for digital services is having a massive boom. And due to social distancing, VFX is playing a major role in the entertainment industry.

The popularity Japanese anime gained in the year 2020 has given new hope that the animation industry will require more and more artists in the near future. Other than that, movies such as Vivo, dragon rider, and Coco which were released in recent years and gained massive box office returns signify the growing scope of VFX in India and abroad.

Many companies have started using animation in their advertisement. We also cannot neglect the importance of animation in the education industry which saw a surge during covid.

To sum it up, I will say both industries are going to see a good future due to the latest change in human behaviour after the covid-19. If you are a person who can do art you can clearly go and select animation as your career. What if you find drawing hard? Then VFX can be a good choice for you.
